How Much More Value

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.

Matthew 10:29-31

This verse comes as Jesus is sending out the twelve apostles to preach the good news. They were to go on this mission with no provisions for the journey, and their message would arouse persecution. But, Jesus reminded them that God was greater. God is the one who ultimately decides life and death, and not one sparrow can fall apart from Him. If God upholds the sparrows, how much more will he provide for and save the ones who are made in His image and carry His message of salvation to others?

Studio Update:

I tried my hand at drawing some sheep… still working on those. Then I started painting some little birds, hoping to make a card set out of those. Did some plein air painting with Mom on our camping trip to Watkins Mill and captured a heron flying across the lake at sunset. And… I’m wrapping up the finishing touches on my 2026 calendar. Look for the digital download to come soon!

Apple Pecan Scones

  • 9 1/2 oz all purpose flour
  • 2 oz sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup cold butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/3 cup pecans
  • 1 small Jonathan apple, diced in small pieces

Combine the flour, sugar, and baking powder in a large mixing bowl. Cut the butter into the flour mixture until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add pecans. In a separate bowl, whisk together cream, egg, and vanilla until well blended. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and mix until almost combined. Add the apples and finish mixing. Pat out into 1/2″ thickness and cut into 12 scones. Bake at 425° F for 10-12 minutes, or until golden.
