Oh, fear the Lord, you his saints, for those who fear him have no lack! The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.
Psalm 34:9-10
David wrote this while running away from Saul, after a close encounter with the king of Gath, where David pretended to be insane and was driven away. God had promised David would be king in place of Saul, but David was still being hunted by Saul. David appears to be lacking a good thing – something God had promised! So, what does David mean by “those who fear him have no lack”? Even though it was not yet fulfilled, God’s promise was enough – David had all that he needed. David had seen God’s provision and deliverance thus far, and he trusted God’s provision and deliverance in the future. Sometimes in our own lives it feels like we are lacking good things. But, God has given so much more. What do we lack that is worth comparing to knowing Him? Sometimes, the very things we lack drive us to a deeper dependence on God. Perhaps, God knows exactly what we need, and maybe our desires and needs are one of the good things God has given – to lead us to seek Him more.
Studio Update:
March began with some strange weather. Spring flowers were blanketed with thick, fluffy snow. While it was super beautiful for a few hours, the flowers and foliage quickly turned brown and laid flat on the ground (not exactly the most cheerful looking spring). But through it all, a few bits of spring have managed to come out of the frost. Some grape hyacinths sit blooming above the browned foliage. My pansies have valiantly bloomed all winter long, and the tulips, though tinged by the frost, bloom largely unscathed.
