Life and Godliness

His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence

2 Peter 1:3

God has given us everything we need to live godly lives.

  • In the mundane, knowing God’s worthiness puts purpose into every task.
  • In fear, knowing His sovereignty brings confidence.
  • In worry, knowing His goodness brings peace.
  • In temptation, knowing God’s holiness and the price He paid for our sin on the cross makes sin repulsive to us.

Knowing God through His Word and abiding in a relationship with Him is everything we need for life and godliness.

Studio Update:

Here’s a snippet of what I’ve been playing with this month (or really in the last couple of months). Some loose watercolor florals, calligraphy, doodle-y stripes, and squirrels baking cinnamon rolls to name a few.

Sourdough Doughnuts

  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 – 1/2 cup sourdough starter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 6 Tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 1/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup Einkorn flour
  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt

The night before doughnut frying:

In a large bowl, whisk together milk, sugar, starter, egg, vanilla and butter. Add flour and salt and stir until combined. The dough should be soft and slightly sticky. Cover with a damp towel and let rise overnight.

The morning of frying:

Roll out the dough to 1/2″ thickness and cut rounds. The dough should be soft and smooth. If you knock out a bunch of air from the dough when you cut them out, let the doughnut rounds rise 20-30 mins before frying.

Fry in 350-360° F oil for 1-2 minutes per side. They should be just golden and not doughy inside. The best option is to fry one to test and adjust the oil temperature as needed before frying the whole batch. The hotter the oil, the more quickly the doughnuts will cook, which will make them less greasy, but too hot will not finish cooking the inside before the outside is overdone.

Finally, top with your favorite doughnut glaze or toppings (we used chocolate frosting for most of ours), and enjoy!

That’s all for this month, and thanks for stopping by!
